Samuel Beckett was born in Foxrock, County Dublin, Ireland on 13 April 1906. He became a major Irish playwright, novelist, and poet who wrote in English and French. His tragicomedy Waiting for Godot and austere theatrical works transformed modern drama. He received the 1969 Nobel Prize in Literature for giving elevation to the destitution of modern man.
