What is recorded here
Detached three-bay two-storey over basement presbytery, built c.1830, having two-bay side elevations, and lower one-bay three-storey return to rear with porch to re-entrant corner. Hipped slate roof with terracotta finials to ridge, cast-iron rainwater goods, and two rendered chimneystacks centrally placed to ridge. Painted lined and ruled rendered walls with vermiculated render quoins and moulded cornice. Square-headed window openings with one-over one pane timber sliding sash windows, with moulded rendered surrounds and vermiculated render keystones to front, with painted sills throughout and with one margined stained-glass window to rear. Elliptical–headed entrance with moulded render surround and vermiculated render keystone, timber panelled door, paned timber overlight and sidelights, and rendered stall risers, approached by three steps over area, with rendered side walls. Inner doorway to entrance hall similar to outer, but stained-glass and timber panelled stall risers. Square-headed timber battened door to rear porch. Set back from road within own grounds.
This well-proportioned house shows the influence of classical planning, with its strong symmetry based on its regular fenestration and centrally placed chimneystacks. The fine rendered doorway and approach steps, and the moulded render surrounds to the facade openings, provide decorative foci, and the retention of timber sash windows and a panelled timber door, and other elements, enhances the building. It was formerly the residence of the Bishop of Clogher.
