Detached stone monument, erected c. 1825. Square ashlar limestone pillar on stepped pedestal, pyramidal cap on moulded cornice. Carved inscription in Latin translated 'Eugene McDonnell vicar of this district had me erected 1591'. Built over well on stone outcrop, dry stone boundary wall, adjacent to small shed with flat concrete slab roof, close to road.
This unusual monument on a prominent site has historical associations with the early church to the west.
