Ruins of Pennard Castle in Swansea, Wales, still stand as a castle or tower, though much of its history has faded. The stones may have guarded a coast road, hidden lovers, or simply belonged to someone proud enough to build high. What is missing is not nothing; it is an invitation to imagine the people who lived there before the place became a ruin.

Built by the de Briouze family in the late 12th or early 13th century, Pennard Castle was later held by the powerful Gower family, the de la Mares. It is important as a well-preserved example of a medieval Welsh Marcher castle and for its historical association with key noble families in the region.
