One chambered tomb in Loughkeelan. Bronze Age hands built it, sixteenth-century hands still walked past it. A round cairn is not a monument to pride; it is a container for death. Build the chamber, cut the passage, strip the floor, lay the bones, bury the chamber, pile the stones. The shape is a room with no walls that anyone living can enter. The chamber holds the dead. The passage holds the living long enough to leave them behind. The cairn holds both.
