Rothesay Castle stands as a circular stone ruin on the Isle of Bute, its thick curtain wall surviving Norse axes and centuries of royal ownership. Built in the early 13th century, the fortress endured repeated assaults before becoming a Stewart residence and later falling into decay. Its unusual round shape and broad moat remain visible today, marking a place where Scottish identity was forged through conflict and patience.
