What is recorded here
Moudy Mea still holds the shape of Roman authority because Roper Castle remains a scheduled monument on its eastern flank. The land has kept the station clear enough for people to recognise it long after the builders left. Distance from Summit Reservoir and law around the site do not remove the chance of walking past the place where human hands shaped the hill.
The National Heritage List for England records Roper Castle Roman signal station, on the eastern flank of Moudy Mea, 700m south of Summit Reservoir as a scheduled monument. The saved point comes from the centre supplied by the official record. Listing does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Built by the Romans as part of a network for military communication, Roper Castle Roman signal station is important as evidence of Roman military organization and signaling systems in the region, dating to the period of Roman occupation in Britain (circa 43–410 AD).
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
