Rolig Mhuire

Within an enclosure (MA087-043001-), on the W shoulder of Croagh Patrick. This penitential station is one of three close-set cairns, collectively known by the traditional name of ‘Roilig Mhuire’, which form part of the ‘Turas’ or traditional pilgrimage route on Croagh Patrick. Circular mound (diam. 6m N–S; 5.8m E–W; H 1.7m) of loose stones. Two other cairns (MA087-043004-; MA087-043003-) are located 3m and 10m to SW, respectively. The outer mantle of each cairn is composed of loose small stones, most likely placed on the cairns by pilgrims, and a loose spread of stones around the base of each cairn is probably the result of slippage and pilgrim activity.
