Roger Boyle entered the world on 25 April 1621 inside Lismore Castle, becoming the twelfth child and third surviving son of the powerful Earl of Cork. He grew up in a large, bustling household where ten siblings reached adulthood, giving the young boy a crowded stage before he ever touched a sword or political lever. That noisy birthplace helped shape the sharp politician and soldier who later navigated the violent storms of the Irish Confederate Wars.
