Kealduff Upper holds a flat rock slab where a smooth disc and scattered pockmarks still mark the stone. That much is clear. What is missing is the hand that made them, the reason they chose this ridge, and the life that moved past them before written records began. The valley below is still visible, which means the place kept its shape even when the people disappeared from the story.

This flat section of outcrop, measuring 3.1m x 1.6m, features a lightly pocked circular area at its N end and a haphazard grouping of pockmarks at SE. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 338. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. According to O’Sullivan & Sheehan (1996, 101), this ‘flat section of rock outcrop, measuring 3.1m x 1.6m, features a lightly pocked circular area at its N end and a haphazard grouping of pockmarks at SE’. The SMR file states that this is ‘a very smooth though stepped portion of rock outcrop whose surface bears only one motif at its N end’ which is ‘a surface pocked flat disc 23cm x 23cm’ and ‘50cm SE are a haphazard collection of 10 pockmarks, set close together’.
