Rock art in Burren (tullyhaw By., Tuam Ed)

Rock art

What is recorded here

One cup-and-ring is carved on the upper surface of a boulder in Burren, County Cavan. The mark is small, but it is still visible on the stone. Someone may have sat beside that boulder, cut through the surface and left a shape that has survived centuries of weather. The burren has kept that human act intact.

A single cup-and-ring mark on a boulder in the Burren is likely from the Neolithic or Bronze Age, common periods for such rock art in Ireland. Cup-and-ring motifs are often associated with ritual or symbolic meaning, possibly linked to water, fertility, or territorial markers.
