What is recorded here
Orpen found a single cup-and-circle on a rock at Ballinvownig in 1908, but the stone vanished from local memory before anyone could protect it. The mark may have been a boundary, a gift, or a joke thrown against heaven. It still exists somewhere under grass, waiting for a hungry eye.

The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 173. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
