Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh

Robert Stewart, later Castlereagh and Marquess of Londonderry, was born in Dublin on 18 June 1769. He went on to help pass the Irish Act of Union in 1800, lead Britain’s diplomacy against Napoleon from 1812, and represent Britain at the Congress of Vienna. In his final years he became isolated and unpopular, and he killed himself at Woollet Hall in Kent on 12 August 1822.
