Robert Lloyd Praeger

Holywood in County Down, Ireland, gave birth to Robert Lloyd Praeger on 25 August 1865, placing a future naturalist inside a Unitarian household where curiosity ran as deep as duty. His father traded Dutch linen while his mother’s line produced investigators and record-keepers, so a boy there would have learned early that observation could become a life. He joined the Belfast Naturalists Field Club at eleven and later helped found the Irish Naturalist, carrying that childhood wonder into adult work.
