Robert Cregan was born in County Dublin on 4 November 1988, the son of Richard Cregan, who managed the Toyota Formula One team. He became the first Irishman to compete in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series in 2011, driving a Ford Falcon for Matt Stone Racing across seventeen races. His career also reached the UAE GT Championship, where he won three of six races to finish second, before returning to single-seater racing in the GP3 Series with Ocean Racing Technology and later Trident.
