This bronze commemorative plaque records: Burns House. Robert Burns and his family moved to this house in 1793 from the Wee Vennel, now Bank Street. Here he continued to write songs and here he died on 21st July 1796
Robert Burns, a preeminent poet of the Scottish Enlightenment, is celebrated for his verses in Scots dialect and standard English; he lived and wrote prolifically at Burns House until his death in 1796.
