What is recorded here

On a slight E-facing slope in pasture. Excavated in 2007 in advance of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford road scheme (Licence no. E3627). A metalled path (L 60m; max. Wth 3.8m; D 0.1m; orientated E-W) constructed of small angular an subangular stones densely packed in one layer. A U-shaped linear ditch ran parallel to it to the N. A sample from the ditch returned a radiocarbon date of cal AD 780-971 (UBA 10985). A small number of pits and possible post-holes were associated with the path. The path extended beyond the limits of the excavation to the E and W and may be associated with routeways between the ecclesiastical complexes of Kilree, Sheepstown and Knocktopher.
