This blue commemorative plaque records: Richmal Mangnall 1769-1820 On this site stood Crofton Hall School. Miss Mangnall, headmistress 1808-1820, through her world-renowned book 'Historical & Miscellaneous Questions', informed and enthused teachers and pupils (including the Brontë children) throughout the 19th century. Recorded plaque organisation: Wakefield Civic Society, Crofton Smoke Signal, Crofton Parish Council, Constable’s and Pinder’s Charity, Crofton History Group.
Richmal Mangnall was the headmistress of Crofton Hall School from 1808 to 1820, and her educational book "Historical & Miscellaneous Questions" significantly influenced teaching methods and inspired students across the 19th century, including the Brontë siblings.
