Richard Henry Wilde was born in County Dublin, Ireland, on September 24, 1789, before moving to Augusta with his parents in 1802. He became a prominent Georgia lawyer, statesman, and poet, serving multiple terms in Congress and later teaching law in New Orleans. Wilde died in 1847 but was reburied in the Augusta City Cemetery in 1886, linking his Irish birth to his American legacy.
