Lt Col Richard Annesley West was a distinguished British Army officer who served with the North Irish Horse and Tank Corps during World War I. He is remembered for his exceptional bravery and leadership, culminating in his death while demonstrating self-sacrifice at Courcelles, France, on 2 September 1918, for which he posthumously received the Victoria Cross.
