Richard Alphonsus O'Connor was born in Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland on April 15, 1838, before emigrating to Canada with his parents in 1841. He became a priest, served missions across Ontario, and was installed as Bishop of Peterborough in 1889. He led the diocese until his death in Peterborough on January 23, 1913.
