The RFA Birchoil was a British Royal Fleet Auxiliary oil tanker that was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat (U-459) on 27 August 1942 off the coast of South Uist in the Sea of the Hebrides during World War II. All 15 crew members were killed, and the loss highlighted the vulnerability of supply vessels in the North Atlantic convoys.
