Ballyrane Castle

Ruins

What is recorded here

Ballyrane Castle stood as an eighteen-metre tower in County Wexford until rapid decay erased it from the landscape. John Synnott owned the grounds in 1641, while the Lett family held the declining site by the nineteenth century. John O'Donovan viewed the intact structure around 1840, yet the Ordnance Survey marked it in ruins just years earlier. The castle vanished completely into a working farmyard, leaving behind only a gentle rise and the memory of a lost stronghold.
