Half a century after the blood was spilled, the people of North Wexford raised a limestone cross on a granite pedestal in Gorey. They carved rope twists into the stone and dated it 1898, turning forgotten martyrdom into a visible warning for everyone passing the wedge-shaped island site. The cross still stands at the edge of McCurtain Street, proving that memory can be built as solid as bone.
