Ada Lovelace, daughter of the poet Lord Byron, is celebrated as a pioneer in computing for her work on Charles Babbage's early mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. She is credited with publishing the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine, thus becoming the world's first computer programmer.
