This blue commemorative plaque records: Baroness Alice Martha Bacon 1909-1993 CBE PC (1909-1993) Yorkshire's first woman MP (1945-1970). Responsible for the introduction of comprehensive schools, she was also a powerful force behind the groundbreaking social reforms which led to the abolition of the death penalty, decriminalisation of homosexuality and the legalisation of abortion.
