What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular earthen enclosure in marshy ground beside the Awbeg River, County Cork. Its bank stands only thirty-five centimetres high, yet it still divides the wet grass into a small room with a southern entrance. Local information calls it a duck cover, suggesting people shaped the ancient line to shelter living things rather than preserve a formal boundary.

In low-lying marshy ground, c. 150m E of Awbeg River. Circular, slightly raised area (22.1m N-S; 19.2m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.35m); external fosse (D 0.6m). Entrance (Wth 2m) to S. Interior mainly grass-covered; mature trees growing on bank and edge of interior. Not a typical location for ringfort. On demesne of Velvetstown House; according to local information, once used as 'duck cover'. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
