Watercourse in Unknown Townland

Excavations in 1984 revealed a stone-built channel and timber sluice-gate at the site of the Four Courts extension. Dendrochronological dates obtained from timbers indicate construction in the mid to late 13th-century. The channel extended NW-SE (L 13m). It was of drystone construction (Wth 0.75m) with a flagged floor. The side walls (H 0.77m) were faced internally with roughly dressed limestone blocks. (McMahon 1988, 271-319).
