What is recorded here
Indicated rises twenty-nine centimetres above ordinary sense, a slender pillar marking the edge where human memory becomes animal dream. Cattle circle its base at dusk, not in habit but recognition, their hooves pressing the depression into sharper truth. The stone does not point to a place. It points to the moment when a place stops being dead and begins demanding witness.
On a very gentle SW-facing slope, in improved pasture, with reasonable views of landscape SE-WNW. Depicted as an upright stone on the 1842 edition of the OS 6-inch map and as a small circle on the OS 25-inch map. Described by Westropp (1917, 11) as a pillar stone. This is a very tall and slender upright stone (H 2.9m; max. T 0.13m at base) with a roughly rectangular elevation to E and W (max. Wth 0.8m at base) which becomes slightly narrower towards the top of the stone, where there is a small rounded point. The E and W elevations have deep oval and irregular solution marks. The ground around the base of the stone forms a slight depression, where it is slightly worn by livestock. A standing stone (CL027-049----) is located c. 90m to SE.
