What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular fairy fort on a Mayo rise, its stone edge still visible beneath pasture and overgrowth. The field wall bends around the north curve instead of cutting through, as if people long ago respected the shape of the place. Cows may have walked beside it, children may have jumped its stones, and farmers may have taken rock from its damaged quarter for ordinary walls. The fort does not need a warning label; it shows itself in the way the land still holds its own line.

In pasture, located on a rise. There is an E−W road immediately to N. Roughly circular raised area (24.8m N−S; 26.9m E−W) defined by a scarp with remnants of wall footings (Wth 1.8-2m) on top and drystone facing (H 0.5m) on its external slope. At E−S the basal courses of the stone facing are intact, but at S−NW the stone facing is intermittent and partly obscured by overgrowth. A large boulder is incorporated into the scarp at S. At NNW−NNE the scarp is incorporated into a field wall (Wth 0.6m), bordering a road, which respects the curve of the enclosure. There is a low terrace (Wth 2m at E, 3.1m at S; H 0.3m at E, 1m at S) immediately outside the scarp at E−S. A field wall on a N−S axis cuts across the centre of the cashel. A series of irregular-shaped, surface hollows (total L 8m; max. Wth c. 2m) is evident immediately adjacent and parallel to the W side of this field wall. A portion the NE quadrant has been quarried away, and a small pit (2m N−S; 1m E−W; D 0.45m) has been dug into the NW quadrant. A farm track skirts around the E half of the cashel.
