Tullynahoo in County Mayo contains a crannog, an artificial island usually built of stones, soil and vegetation to raise a living space above dangerous water. The name identifies the place as a crannog, while the missing detailed description leaves its exact size, shape and period open to imagination. It may have been a farm, a hiding spot or a seasonal home for people who understood water as much as soil.
