Indicated

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished fairy fort on the SW shoulder of a Cavan hill, reduced to a short drystone wall hidden inside a field boundary. The brutal truth is that indifference levelled the rest, erasing the shape of a place that once defied easy belief. What remains is not even a ruin but a seam in the land, waiting for someone stubborn enough to see the difference between forgetting and killing.
Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 ed. Situated on the SW shoulder of a hill in rough mountainous terrain. All that survives of the site is a short stretch of low drystone wall at N which is incorporated into the field boundary. Otherwise site has been levelled. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
