Grave Yard at Tubbrid stands on a raised terrace above the Nuenna river, holding the remains of Canons Regular from St. John's Abbey, Kilkenny. The Shortall family buried their dead here from the eighteenth century onward, marking time with stone monuments beside the medieval church. Pasture surrounds the place, but the river still flows nearby and the old wall still defines the boundary between the living and the dead.

On a broad terrace on the SE side of the Nuenna river valley, the river flowing c. 120m to the NW, surrounded by pasture. There are good views SW-NE along valley and NW across valley. According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 2, 370) the church belonged to the Canons Regular of St. Augustine, St. John's Abbey, Kilkenny. The medieval church (KK013-032001-) of Tubbrid is orientated NE-SW and centrally placed within a rectangular graveyard (dims. c. 38m NE-SW; c. 30m NW-SE). The graveyard was enclosed by a stone wall in the 19th century. It sits upon a raised platform (H 0.6m) which extends 3-6m beyond the graveyard wall. It appears to have been truncated by the public road which runs NE-SW along the SE wall of the graveyard. The OS Letters (1839) mention, 'an old grave of one of the Shortalls' in the graveyard (O'Flanagan ed. 1930, vol. 1, 170 (55-6)). However, according to Carrigan (ibid.), 'there are many monuments here to members of the Shortall family, but none of them older than the middle of the 18th century'.
