Castle

Castle, unclassified

What is recorded here

Castle Farren McBrandon vanished before it was named, leaving only a castle shape in the memory of Tralee. It may have stood beside a market lane, sheltered a trader, or watched a road nobody remembers. The unknown location does not weaken the castle; it removes the false certainty that a castle must still be visible to be real.
This record refers to the castle listed in a survey of 1584 as the 'burgage and castle called Farren McBrandon'. Its precise location is not known. The above description is derived from Bradley, J., et al. 1987 Urban Archaeology Survey Part XIV County Kerry. Unpublished report. Office of Public Works. Date of upload: 24 January 2012
Built or held by Farren McBrandon, likely in the late 16th century, this castle is remembered primarily from a 1584 survey, offering a rare reference to a structure associated with the McBrandon family in the Tralee area during the late medieval period.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
