What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort in County Mayo, an oval of packed earth and shadow where the boundary between worlds grows thin. Its shallow fosse and low bank remain visible through the stone fence, marking a place set apart for reasons older than human memory. The land remembers the shape even when people forget the name, waiting for someone quiet enough to hear what the field is holding back.
In pasture on W-facing slope. Oval-shaped area (32m N-S; 26m E-W), enclosed by earthen bank (H 0.7m) SE to NW, overlain by stone fence. Shallow external fosse (D 0.2m) NW to SE. The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 489. Date of upload: 4 February 2013
