What is recorded here
Two small wells cling to the rock below Céibh an Doirín, one a round pothole hiding in a crevice and the other flanked by stones that sound like statues. They are the kind of place where water does something human before it is drunk, witnessed or forgotten.
Below HWM c. 180m N of the quay called Céibh an Doirín. It consists of two contiguous holy wells: (a) a natural round pothole (D 0.3m) seen by looking down a crevice in the outer face of a knob of rock; (b) immediately E of the latter, it is said to have a statue-like stone on either side of it (info. T. Robinson). Not visited.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993).
