Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Tanrego West is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Tanrego West, County Sligo, Ireland. The oval platform sits atop a two-metre mound on a narrow ridge overlooking Ballisodare Bay. A seven-metre-wide earth and stone bank encloses the site, with a possible three-metre entrance at the southwest and a larger break at the north.
This monument straddles the narrow spine of a low N-S ridge overlooking the W side of Ballisodare Bay. Approximately oval-shaped platform (dims. 47.3m N-S; 30m E-W) atop a steep-sided mound (H 2m). At the upper edge of the scarp at N and E are traces of levelled bank. At the foot of the mound is a space (Wth. 7m - 7.4m) beyond which from SE-S-SW and from N-NNE-NE is a substantial bank of earth and stone (Wth. 7m; H 0.7m). At E and W this merges with the naturally-occurring slope of the ridge. At N it survives as a scarp (H 0.7m). Original entrance may have been at SW (Wth.3m). Within the N half of the internal area is a possible hut site (SL019-056003-). At N is a break in the outer bank (Wth. 5m - 6m). The terminals merge with the series of disused field banks which encompass the top of the ridge upon which the rath is sited (see SL019-056002-).
