What is recorded here

Stones marks a vanished standing stone on a gentle north-facing slope in County Galway, named on the 1838 Ordnance Survey map but no longer visible. The field holds exposed limestone pavement to the south, while the place itself has returned to pasture and memory. Whatever stood there has been removed, buried or forgotten, leaving only the name and the suggestion that people once marked this ground with stone.

Named 'Stones' in Roman script on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map but not indicated. No visible surface trace survives; possibly the site of standing stones.
