Standing stone in Foilogohig

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Foilogohig holds one of three stones recorded by Bowman in 1934. The subrectangular block measures 0.8m x 0.7m x 0.6m and now lies on a nearby field fence rather than standing proud. It is not a monument to grandeur but a marker of ordinary land, perhaps dropped when a fence was built or a field was drained. What is lost is not the stone but the reason it stood apart.
One of three stones (9985, 9986) recorded by Bowman (1934, 447) on T. Buckley's land. Stone (0.8m x 0.7m x 0.6m) is subrectangular in shape and lying on nearby field fence. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
