What is recorded here
East Browncastle is a farmstead in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is not a castle, despite the name. The place may have had a castle once, or the name may have come from a boundary mark, a brown field edge, or a mistake repeated until it became true. Farmstead names often carry more history than their buildings survive.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records East Browncastle as Farmstead (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
