What is recorded here

Knocknaskereighta still drops its shadow across Gallaun at sunset, forcing the stone to tilt into the light instead of resisting it. The bay appears suddenly when walking past, as if the rock had been holding the view back all along. That much is visible without belief. What is missing is the reason a person stood there watching water move, perhaps marking distance, perhaps remembering someone lost at sea. The stone no longer needs explanation because it has already given up its secret to the sky.

This standing stone is located in arable land, on the lower E slopes of Knocknaskereighta, with an open view to Ballinskelligs Bay at SE. It stands 2.38m high and is oriented NE-SW on its long axis. Of regular elevation, it measures 1.27m wide and .2m thick at base. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Likely dating to the Bronze Age, the stone's orientation and location suggest it may have had a ritual or ceremonial function, possibly linked to solar or maritime observation. No specific folklore or detailed local tradition is recorded for Gallaun, Sosadh.
