Urns buried people in Sillis, Monaghan, near the River Blackwater. One was found behind a barn, covered by a flat stone, then the stone was replaced and the place was forgotten. The dead may have watched the water flow past while the living stepped across it.

In 1964, the NMI received a report stating that an urn burial had been discovered years earlier by the grandfather of the correspondent. It was found 'at the back of a barn, near stepping stones over the River Blackwater on the border with Co. Armagh. According to the report, the burial was covered by a slab which was replaced as found. The precise location of the burial is no longer known. (Cahill and Sikora 2011, Vol. 2, 451).
