What is recorded here

Shankill Cross stood in Kiltuc Church before men re-erected it around 1901 in a narrow laneway between Rathmichael and Shankill Castle. It rose from a low basin east of the Dublin mountains, watching carts, rain and passing lives while the church emptied or changed around it. A cross is not a decoration; it is a marker of patience, memory and warning.
The Shankill Cross (DU026-051----) was formerly located in Kiltuc Church (DU026-054001-) but was re-erected c. 1901 at a base in the laneway between Rathmichael and Shankill Castle. This site is located in a low-lying urbanised landscape at east of the Dublin mountains. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout and Padraig Clancy. Revised upload on: 21 April 2018.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
