What is recorded here
Gateway, extant 1908, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of cut-granite piers on plinths having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornices below capping supporting crocketed cast-iron double gates with cut-granite outer piers on plinths having "Cyma Recta"- or "Cyma Reversa"-detailed cornices below capping supporting crocketed cast-iron serpentine railings. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Crinken House.
A gateway not only making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at the entrance on to the grounds of the Crinken House estate, but also illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate in the later nineteenth century.
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
