What is recorded here

Gallaun was a standing stone in a Kerry field, but the stone has vanished, leaving only a smooth pasture space facing Macgillycuddy's Reeks. It may have marked a boundary, a burial, a meeting place or a warning, yet even that purpose has faded. What remains is a absent landmark, remembered through description rather than seen.

There is no visible trace of the ‘Gallaun’ marked on the OS maps at this location. It was situated towards the centre of a level field, now devoted to pasture. The site affords fine views of Macgillycuddy’s Reeks to S. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
