What is recorded here
Oldcastles is a farmhouse and farmstead in the Scottish Borders, recorded without a date but marked on the official map to within one metre. The name suggests castle ruins beneath farm fields, yet no castle appears in the facts. Perhaps a fortress fell, was stripped for stone, and became pasture; the fields would still cover its shape.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Oldcastles as Farmhouse (period Unassigned), Farmstead (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
