What is recorded here

Two enormous slabs stood twenty feet apart on the northeast edge of Scariff Island, marking a grave large enough for a giant. Locals dug beside the stones but found nothing, emptying the mystery instead of solving it. The sea, time or forgotten hands removed the structure entirely, leaving only the memory of a boundary between human death and something larger.

This site, described in the OSNB (Kilcrohane, 192) as a 24 foot (7.3m) long grave, was located on the NE side of Scariff Island, a short distance S of an ecclesiastical site (KE105A-001----). Henry described the site as 'two erect slabs standing about 20 feet [6.09m] apart', and recorded that local digging at the site revealed no finds (1957, 146). No trace of this site, which was locally known as the 'Giant's Grave', is now apparent. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
