Located inside the porch of the present Church of Ireland church of St. Mary’s is a limestone sarcophagus in perfect condition with some quartz streaks in the stone and evidence of diagonal tooling. It is coffin-shaped (L 2.31m; Wth 0.61m at the feet to 0.76m at the shoulders; H 0.62m). The head area is circular (diam. 0.38m; D 0.37m) and raised from the floor and the body area (dims. 1.75m x 0.49-0.65m) has two soakage holes. This may be one of the two sarcophagi found in Priory St. in 1860 (Vigors 1901-03a, 130), the other being (WX029-013060-), now in the S transept. If they are from Priory St. they can be associated with the monastery of the Crutched Friars (WX029-013008-). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 3 August, 2012
