Settlement cluster in Rushin

Rushin appeared in a 1605 indenture when Robert Piggott of Disarte granted Thomas Allen the villages of Roughin for sixty-one years, yet no marker remains to show which field, lane or hearth belonged to that cluster. The name resists easy pronunciation and the place resists easy identification, suggesting ordinary life continued around boundaries that later disappeared. Whatever rows of rooftops or scattered cottages filled that townland, they vanished without warning, leaving only a legal phrase and a region where memory failed to hold them.
