What is recorded here
Mnemo is an unlocated church and graveyard in Rushin, County Laois, where a small ancient building once stood beside a large burying bush. The church measured no more than eleven feet wide inside, and its graveyard stretched far enough to be traced even after the fence disappeared. Only unbaptised children are still buried there, leaving the place quiet, crowded with memory, and untouched by headstones.
Unlocated church (LA011-028001-) within townland, Carrigan describes the monument as 'Very slight traces of the walls of an ancient church are still to be seen in this townland, in a field on the bounds of Paddock, called the 'Kyle [ie. church] Meadow'. It was a very small church, having been apparently no more than 11ft. Wide on the inside. Beside it is the 'Burying Bush', a large sceach (LA011-028004-), around which lies in the graveyard. The original enclosing fence (LA011-028003-) has been levelled, but its circuit, which was considerable, can be easily traced. Only unbaptised children are now buried here. There are no head-stones (Carrigan 1905, p. 175).
